Not all psychic mediums use meditation. It’s possible to connect to energy without it. After all, you’ve been passively doing it your entire life. However, there is purpose in meditation. It serves an array of functions. Today, in my Psychic 101 series, we’re talking about meditation, troubleshooting problems with meditation, and how to gain the most out of your meditation to support your exploration of psychic abilities.
The Purpose of Meditation
There is power in a still mind. Meditation raises your vibration, opens you up to receiving messages from your spirit guides, restores internal balance, and increases your connection to the environment around you. All of these things can speed up the development of your psychic abilities.
Remember that connecting to energy for the purposes of mediumship requires you to set your vibration to the appropriate mhz or frequency at which the energy lives or vibrates. So, for example, if you want to contact Spirit, you have to raise your vibration because Spirit operates at a much higher frequency. Sure, you could get to the right level of vibration without meditation but meditation is such a quick and effective way to achieve it… so… really… why would you want to?
Using meditation as a way to communicate with Spirit is also useful because Spirit wants to help develop your gifts! That’s part of their job. Through meditation, communication with you is more fluid and open, allowing them to inspire you with ideas to exercise and develop your abilities.
What is Meditation?
Meditation is a method for stilling the mind and transcending the state of normal waking consciousness. The method varies. There’s breathing-based meditation, movement-based meditation, chanting-based meditation, guided meditation, coloring-based meditation, and laughing-based meditation for example The goal isn’t to chant, it’s to still the mind in order to reach a higher plane of consciousness, and chanting is just how some people do that.
Develop A Ritual
Developing a ritual assists meditations because it trains your mind and your body to transition into the meditative state much easier. However, it also allows you to set the focus (or intention) of your meditation by ritualizing communication with your spirit guides.
If you follow my Instagram account, it shouldn’t surprise you that I incorporate the use of candles for meditation, because I use candles for almost everything. However, what you may not know is that I incorporate the candle lighting with a prayer to my guides that sets my focus for the meditation for my highest good. The prayer goes something like this:
With this candle, I set my intention to meditate for only my highest good,
And to call upon you for help with [insert problem].
You can make this as formal or informal as you need but ritualizing meditation is such an important part of the meditative process because it keeps your meditation goal-oriented and helps train you to rely upon your spirit guides. Further, the problem you’re asking help with doesn’t have to be related to the development of your psychic abilities. You can ask for help with a romantic conflict within your life, you can ask for advice on your career, or even how to develop better behavioral patterns (like meditation!).
Find your Style of Meditation
Meditation is for everyone. If it hasn’t worked for you in the past, perhaps it’s because the style of meditation was simply a poor fit. The simple truth is that not everyone can sit still long enough to meditate in a sitting position. Some people have too much pain to meditate in any other position than the prone position. And sometimes people find it easier to still their mind if they put their bodies to work either by doodling, coloring, or even through movement (like yoga).
Movement Based Meditation
Trying to adhere to a meditation schedule using a style of meditation that simply doesn’t work with you only guarantees that you’re less motivated to meditate. If your jam is literally to turn on some music and dance in your undies – and that’s what stills your mind and allows you to transcend your level of consciousness – then jam on.
Play around. Find what works for you. Also start small. Try meditating for five minutes allows you to work your way up to a level that you can handle and have the desire to handle.
This is Part 5 in my Psychic 101 Series. The purpose of this series is to help you discover your psychic abilities, learn how to control your psychic abilities, and how you can master them.
If you’ve been following along in my Psychic 101 series, you’ve already discovered the first three steps you need to understand in order to tap into your psychic ability. This post is going to be the fourth.
Everything is energy. I’m energy. You’re energy. The little olive tree growing in my office is energy. My house is powered by energy. I use energy to type this out. My six dogs have loads of energy. The cornerstone of using one’s psychic abilities is the ability to sense the energy they’re seeking. As a spiritual and physical psychic medium, the vast majority of my experience is limited to sensing the energy of Spirit. However, energy is energy which means there are some common themes in the sensation of energy.
Inherent in learning to control one’s gift is this implicit idea of usage. What’s the point of all of this when I can’t turn my gift “on” and use it? Using your gift to understand and tap into energy requires you to be able to perceive that energy.
You’re most natural way to sense energy is going to be dependent on the particular clairs you favor. For example, if you’re Clairgustant then energy might come in the form of a metallic taste. If you’re Clairaudient then you might be able to tune into your surroundings and hear the currents of energy (when my phone charger is plugged in, I can hear the buzz of connectivity). If you’re Clairvoyant then you might see waves of energy (like heat waves) disrupt the space around you. If you’re Clairsentient, you might feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end or the subtle drop in temperature.
Exercise 1: Sense Energies
Go through the list of clairs and “check in” with yourself to make sure you understand your current state. For example: asking yourself how your mouth currently tastes will help you identify a subtle change in taste if you experience a energy through taste.
Breathe deeply. Hold. Set your intention to clear your thoughts. Release them as you exhale. Repeat until you find yourself centered in the moment and to your environment.
Set your intention to tune in to your environment and ask your spirit guides to help you sense energies
Select the type of energy source you want to sense and go through the list of Clairs asking if you notice any differences since you checked in with yourself
If you’re trying to sense Spirit then you will need to invite Spirit in. Start by inviting in a loved one who passed awhile ago. Explain to them what you’re trying to do. Invite them to give you a sensation to let you know they are present.
Rinse and repeat as often as you can throughout your day, your week, and your month. Always anchor yourself to your environment, evaluate how you feel, and then open yourself to sensing the energy.
In this exercise, there is no judgment or evaluation, you’re just trying to determine what you naturally perceive using your psychic gifts. This can be with your eyes open or closed.
Have fun with it! Does the energy in your remote feel different than the energy in your phone? What about the energy in your pet? Run your hand over blades of grass and see if you can sense energy. Hover your hands above loved ones and get a feeling for their energies. Even rocks and gems have their own energies! If you follow my Instagram account, you’ll frequently see the use of gemwork in my readings because I channel the energies of my stones to help strengthen both my connection and my Clair experiences.
Eventually, you will start being able to sense energies. It’s okay if you can’t sense all energies of all the things. To be quite frank: that sounds exhausting. However, focus on the energies to which you would specifically like to connect. You also may not be able to sense energies immediately so please don’t allow yourself to become discouraged. I promise it gets easier.
Exercise 2: Learn to pair energies with identification
Once you learn to sense energies, you can start learning to pair energies with their type and even distinguish energies among the same types things. For example, your cell phone and your laptop are both electronic devices, yet if you tune in to each energy then you can distinguish the subtle differences between them. Similarly, making a physical connection with Spirit feels entirely different than making a spiritual connection with Spirit.
I have six – yes six – large breed dogs that like to roam in our rural fenced in yard. Each of my dogs has a distinctive energy signature that allows me to know which one of my fury familiars has entered the room to lay at my feet without me looking up.
With enough exposure to energies, you will also be able to identify who walks into the room without looking, even if they’re in Spirit!
With this exercise start testing yourself until you can easily, quickly, and correctly identify the energies you wish to perceive. This test works best with your eyes closed but you can also enlist the help of a friend. You can use a basket full of electronics that are turned on/active. You can use this by having friends stand in front of you while you sense their energies. Can you picture the thing you’re sensing in your mind’s eye? Can you hear the thing you’re sensing? Can you feel the thing you’re sensing? Can you taste it? Immerse yourself in the experience of these energies.
Don’t forget to invite your Spirit Guides into this exercise. Allow them to give you ideas. They’re experts in you and helping you grow your abilities.
Exercise 3: Learn to pair energies with understanding
Once you learn how to identify what by sensing the energy, you need to start practicing perceiving the health of that energy. For my technical mediums, this will help you identify any blockages in the currents. For my empaths, this will help you identify the emotions bombarding you (is this a happy emotion and that’s why I’m feeling anxious? is this a sad emotion and that’s why I’m feeling drained? For my physical mediums, this will help you identify areas of pain on someone’s body so that way you can offer the proper treatments.
For this exercise – you will need to work with your knowledge of the energy you’re reading.
For example: if you’re reading your mom, have her mentally identify where she’s aching, close your eyes and just connect with her energy to identify those pain points. You can try physically holding hands with her. You can try hovering your hand over her.
Similarly, if you’re reading your electronic devices, now would be a good time to tax your systems with a heavy energy load to see what that feels like.
What does a happy, healthy energy feel like? What does a blocked energy feel like?
Exercise 4: Now take it on the road
Finally, it is time to combine all of these exercises into one and immerse yourself in a new environment with new things you haven’t sensed. Put your abilities to the test by sitting in a food court and allowing the energies of others wash over you. Stand in the technology section or electronics section and start sensing. Be among nature, close your eyes, and just sense.
You will soon start identifying the same states of health in others that you identified in your mother, in your overtaxed gaming computer, and so forth. You will realize that you don’t have to know a person to know a person. One’s unique energy is expressed in ways that you can perceive.
This will help protect you as you advance your gifts. Eventually, you’ll be able to identify energies that are negative or harmful and quickly avoid them without first getting hurt or drained by them.
One final note:
Connecting with energy is draining.
Remember to stay hydrated (water is an excellent conductor for energy).
Remember to stay fueled with high vibrational foods like fruit and vegetables.
This is Part 4 in my Psychic 101 Series. The purpose of this series is to help you discover your psychic abilities, learn how to control your psychic abilities, and how you can master them.
Being a spiritual and physical psychic medium is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had – second only to my family (which includes the conventional definition of family, friends, and pets). It can be really fun and hilarious as you bond with clients over stories shared in their spiritual connection with loved ones, conversations you have with Spirit (Spirit is really, really funny), and even as you discover the limits and boundaries of your natural abilities (I have channeled dogs and cats!).
But to depict this as fun and games is a genuine disservice to the purpose we should all feel when we embark upon this journey. First and foremost, I am called to serve, and I choose to serve using these natural abilities that I have chosen to develop. This means I’m sometimes put in dangerous situations, I’m sometimes forced into awkward conversations, and I frequently receive uncomfortable messages that I am compelled to relay. It also means that I must be committed and disciplined.
Welcome to Part 3 in my Psychic 101 Series where we explore what it means to be a psychic medium. In this section, we will discuss the less glamorous parts of being a psychic medium, the hard decisions that need to be made, the struggles and sacrifices required, and the discipline needed.
A few years ago, my cousin lost her battle with depression, when she secretly purchased a gun and took her own life. While my cousin’s battle with depression ended, my aunt’s struggle with heartbreak had only just begun, as she was haunted with questions like, “did my daughter’s suicide damn her to hell?” and “how can I live every day without my daughter?” As years passed, my aunt retreated into her own internal, unhealthy prison, as she struggled with depression, irrecoverable loss, and unimaginable pain.
My aunt was too overwhelmed by grief to sense the loving spirit of her daughter who wanted to heal her mom but felt powerless on the other side. She had tried everything to grab her mom’s attention but the family’s religious restrictions closed her off to the possibility of hearing from her daughter and her grief blinded her from receiving the unexpected messages her daughter was trying to deliver.
A Call to Serve
“I need you to talk to my mother,” was a message I had expected and dreaded. I don’t openly channel the dead at family gatherings and understand my family’s firm religious stance on using the services or abilities of someone touched by “the occult.” If this were Salem in the 1400’s, it’s not that I could have been outed as a witch, it’s that many members of my family would be leading the hunt.
The number of family members who know I am a professional psychic medium I can count on one hand: my mother, my grandmother on her side, and my aunt on her side. I’ve channeled for all of them. My mother and I have openly discussed our abilities for years and have developed our abilities along side of each other. My husband knows. A few select friends now. However, the vast majority of my clients are online.
When my cousin reached out to me, I grimaced, knowing the implications of her request, because each time I deliver a message, I open myself up to inquiries. I open myself up to the possibility of being found out. Of being shunned by those who don’t understand or who are afraid of my abilities. However, to agree to develop your abilities, is an agreement to serve the greater good. It is a public service. No one said this was going to be an easy path without sacrifice. Without risk.
Accidentally Alienating those you Love
The message was too important to ignore despite my deepest desire to pretend like I didn’t see my cousin standing before me. She was shrouded in the brightest, loveliest sunlight. Her face used to have the deep groove lines of pain, her face used to be contorted by depression. Now it was fresh, young, vibrant, and entirely absent of pain. This was the first time I had ever seen a spirit this close and I had never seen anyone without pain lines written across their face. “I was really, really sick before I killed myself. I need my mother to know that I am at peace now. I’m not sick any more. I have never felt this alive and happy. She needs to forgive herself. She needs to understand that this was what I needed. For me. She needs to let go of her grief and enjoy life again. She is too young to die. It is not her turn. She has things she still has to do.”
By the end of our conversation, I knew what I had to do. I delivered the message but obscured my role as a psychic spiritual medium. “I had a dream,” I lied. My aunt’s religious belief system condemned the use of psychics but had a rich tradition of heavenly messages being delivered by way of dreams. This lie allowed me to heal my aunt’s heart, deliver the important message my cousin had sent, and protect myself from further inquiries. The cost? I would have to carry the burden of my lies with me.
All lies have a cost and honesty almost always serves the greater good which means that my call to service is a call to maintaining integrity. After all, no one trusts a lying psychic. Yet my objective here is the greater good and to serve Spirit which is sometimes a balancing act. I can’t do what I do if people don’t trust me. I can’t do what I do if people think I’m aligned with Satan.
Living the life of a psychic medium means that you will constantly be evaluating how much of yourself you can share with friends, family, and new acquaintances. It can make dating hell. You have to determine the degree you want to be publicly recognized for it especially if you want to maintain a professional day job that many would find incompatible with mediumship.
There are some who would be uncomfortable with the knowledge I can speak with the dead, be made aware of conversations held in private, and sometimes pick up on energies, feelings, and thoughts that they’d otherwise like to keep to themselves. The sheer presence of a psychic medium could be enough to warrant violence, ex-communication from family, being asked to leave a church, or be fired from a job. Yet, a call to serve is a call to serve, regardless of the implications or awkward conversations. Even if you lose a friend. A parent. A grandparent. A sibling.
You will terrify the hell out of people
The idea that someone would be terrified of me because I do this… is almost unbelievable. I connect with Spirit using love and compassion. I grieve over roadkill. I rehome spiders. I drink herbal tea. I cry watching commercials. But my life’s purpose is to heal pain by bridging the gap between the living and the dead so people don’t focus on the fact that I cry watching the Traveler’s insurance commercial with the puppy worried about his bone… they focus on the dead bit of the description and reach their own conclusions.
I am not a member of the Church of Satan. I don’t define myself as a Satanist. I not actually affiliated with any church or religious organization, I consider myself non-religious, and I do not believe in God/Gods (but you have a right to your own beliefs). What I do scares some people which means I’m frequently lumped in with other things that scare people. Sometimes, when people are scared, they become cruel and dangerous. Sometimes, when people are skeptical, they turn pleasantries into an Olympic competition forcing a burden of proof onto others.
When I introduce myself, I rarely introduce myself as a psychic spiritual and physical medium, because these words trigger a series of expectations, beliefs, fears, and curiosities in people when I’m just standing in line trying to pick up my cold brew iced coffee. I’m sorry. I’m sure they’re lovely people but no, I have no desire to prove myself, by giving them a free reading. I do not want to be called a devil worshiper while I’m at the checkout line in Target. I have little desire to be the object of a witch hunt.
The reality is that I prefer to read for people online because of the anonymity. Because it’s safer for my family. Because not having to pay for office space allows me to maintain lower prices for my clients. Because, at the end of the day, being a spiritual and psychic medium consumes a lot of energy and at the end of the day, I want to binge watch my favorite television series just like you.
This requires commitment
Being an effective and accurate psychic medium is a commitment. It’s not something easily done in the evening. I have to meditate frequently, engage in mental exercises designed to strengthen my psychic connections, and create experiments designed to test the limits of my abilities. That’s not including the hours I spend doing readings for clients. These are the non-business aspects of being a psychic medium and alone consumes hours of my time every day. Paired with the mundane efforts of maintaining a social media presence and creating online content, I work seven days a week, and frequently have long work days in which I’m up early and working until I close my eyes for the evening.
When Spirit wants to come, Spirit wants to come. Even if you’re standing in the checkout line with toilet paper.
Ultimately, my goal is to eventually earn enough money where my work-life balance is more sustainable. However, currently I work way more than I get paid with no real end in sight. I also can’t imagine scaling down my efforts yet. This means that this commitment I have made is one that has to be burdened by my entire family. My husband has to earn enough to make up what I lack. Some months are harder than others.
Lastly, it’s a lifestyle change in which I have to prioritize meditation, abandon alcohol consumption, minimize caffeine consumption, and limit the exposure to things that lower my vibrational state. My body, mind, and spirit are tools used for divinely inspired communication with Spirit which means I have to make a commitment to sleep, eating a well balanced diet, and avoid consuming items that will harm or altar my body (I really miss eating a lot of chocolate and drinking a lot of caffeine).
This requires energy
Unfortunately, even if I did have more time to spend with my family, I may not have the energy. Connecting with energy, as a medium, consumes a significant amount of energy. The energy consumption is so great that I frequently sweat as my body heats up, I become ravenously hungry, and need a period of recovery after the session has ended. Channeling energy requires energy.
When my day is packed full of spiritual and physical readings, it leaves very energy left for chores, housework, physical exercising, and so on.
Should I Monetize?
When I originally started reading for others, I read for free, because I had a primary source of income. However, it was an unsustainable arrangement because after work, I simply didn’t have enough energy and time to really develop my craft. When I lost my job (and my primary source of income), many of my clients encouraged me to turn this into a profession. They argued that my gift was too powerful and important to only perform occasionally. It was meant to be shared.
I felt uncomfortable charging for my services until one of my clients explained it like this: Do doctors charge even though they have curative knowledge? Of course! They have to earn a living. Look, you don’t have to charge astronomical prices because I know you’re not out to get rich. You can just charge what you need in order to keep doing what you do.
Although I do sometimes perform free readings under special circumstances on special occasions, I cannot fincially afford to do this any more. I would love to give my gift to everyone who asks but I cannot. I have to weigh the importance of the message against the importance of paying bills and talk openly with my Spiritual Team about my needs as a spirit having a human experience. To read or not to read for free is a decision I make with them.
A lot of my business is grounded in the faith that if I do a good job, if I take care of my clients, if I’m accurate and have earned the trust of my clients then they will come back to me. I am planting seeds in hopes that I can eventually harvest the fruits of my labor. The decision to monetize my gifts was not a decision I made lightly and was a decision I made reluctantly but it was necessary.
I am constantly having to reconcile my abilities to receive messages with the potential realities of delivering those messages. I do this by asking, “What purpose does this message serve? Does it serve others? Does it serve the greater good? Does it serve my greater good? How important is this message? Am I the only avenue for this message to be delivered?” These are the deciding factors for me in whether or not someone receives a free reading and I am always checking in with my spiritual guides to ensure that I am not prioritizing my personal gain over the greater good.
This is Part 3 in my Psychic 101 Series. The purpose of this series is to help you discover your psychic abilities, learn how to control your psychic abilities, and how you can master them.
It doesn’t matter how your psychic abilities manifest themselves (the type of medium you are and the tools you use to express that mediumship). The basic rules for connecting with your abilities, connecting with the specific type of energy you’re inclined to use, and learning how to control your abilities follow a similar path.
Last week, I wrote that everyone has an innate “psychic” ability and that, at its core, psychic ability is simply the ability to connect with energy on a psychic level. Some connect with the pain felt by others, some connect with the imprints energy leaves behind on objects and places. Some connect with the energy culminating into future events. Some connect with the energy used to create music, the energy comprised in spirit, or the energy used in the ingredients to prepare the right meal for the right occasion. This list is endless because energy is endless. It is all around us and exercising one’s inherent psychic ability is merely learning how to access and channel that energy.
However, without learning to control our abilities or to develop them, harnessing the power inherent in them can feel like trying to capture lightning in a bottle. It can feel scary, dangerous, exhilarating, unpredictable, and exciting. Failing to capture that lightening can leave us feeling disappointed which can even be a counterproductive energy.
Today, my goal is to provide you with an overview of the mechanisms for working with your spiritual team, how to create a space to channel energy properly, how to tune into energy, how to make yourself into a conduit to channel that energy, and how to hone your skills. In the upcoming weeks, we will explore each of these sections in depth with a single post devoted entirely to the subject.
Working with your Spiritual Team
We are all assigned a spiritual team to help guide us on our unique journeys. Some team members are assigned to you during your pre-birth planning. Some team members are loved ones who have joined after transitioning to Spirit again. These are your spirit guides and will be your best line of defense against unwanted psychic activity and your best advisers for exploring your abilities on a path designed specifically for you. Their entire purpose is to provide you with the resources and understanding you need for your highest good.
Not all psychic mediums choose to actively engage their spirit guides during this process. This is not an easier path but it is a viable path should you choose to go it alone.
If you do want the support and aid of spiritual experts then I recommend starting a dialog with them. Find a quiet place where you can remain undisturbed, grab your favorite tools for writing (whether it be electronically or with pen to paper), and just start a conversation.
This is the format I’ve chosen however you should use the format that speaks most naturally to you. You may even find the constraints of a written format to be too restrictive and find a natural inclination to write a song, create a video, incorporate it into a ritual, or even draw out a cartoon of the interaction. What’s important is that you ask for assistance, identify the assistance you want, create boundaries, and establish rules of engagement.
You may immediately feel the presence of your spiritual team or you may not sense their participation until you’re further along in the process. However, trust that the team has already committed to the goals and will rise to the occasion.
Start incorporating your guides into the following steps below and inviting them to influence your daily decisions for your highest good. Ask for their advice for which tools you should acquire, which exercises you should pursue, etc. The purpose is to recognize and engage in a working relationship with your spiritual team now that you’ve enlisted their help.
Calming your Mind
Calming your mind is an essential and important step in the process for two reasons. First, energy can be subtle especially when you start learning to work with your natural gifts and the expression of your natural psychic abilities. When a loved one in Spirit wishes to communicate, I usually feel a light dizzying sensation wash over me. If I’m too distracted by a TV show, music, friends, or even my own thoughts then I will inevitably miss opportunities to learn and engage with energy. How you sense energy may be entirely different and, with practice, you will can discover what that is if you don’t already know.
Calming your mind also allows you to amplify the connection between you and your spiritual team so that may guide you into opportunities for your highest good and warn you against opportunities that aren’t for your highest good. This is the perfect time to breathe deeply, clear your mind, and announce to your guides that you are open to receiving messages for your highest good.
In the beginning, you may not be able to perceive the messages they are delivering. It is okay to ask them to amplify the connection, be less subtle in their messaging, or obtain guidance on how it is best for you to receive your messages. This is about trial and error with the goal of finding what feels most natural because, ultimately, the most natural fit for you is the one that will work most effectively.
Eventually, the effort required to calm your mind will lower, you will be able to achieve a still mind much quicker, and you will be able to do so in the midst of distractions. You will be able to switch it on and off on demand. However, getting there takes practice.
Environmental Awareness and Mindfulness
When you enter into a new room or when new people enter your space, close your eyes, and connect to your environment through your senses.
This exercise will help train you to sense the different types of energies, teach you to identify what they mean, and it will also be one of the primary means of communication from Spirits.
If someone in your life is always having the worst day, has the worst attitude, and shares the worst ideas then learning how that energy manifests itself will help you identify the same traits in strangers. Similarly, if someone in your life is always finding the positive meaning in events, has an optimistic disposition, and has a compassionate and gentle energy then learning the type of energy frequencies they emits will allow you to identify similar traits in strangers. The same is true for energies of the past, present, and future. The same is true for atmospheric energy. The same is true for spiritual energy. The key is perceiving how these energies present themselves to you, what subtle changes you feel when they enter into your space, and the meaning behind him.
This will also allow you to receive messages from your spiritual team more effectively even in scenarios where your mind isn’t ideally calm. For example, you may perceive there’s an odd energy surrounding a detour traffic sign on your way to the store. Depending on the energy received, this may be a sign that it’s time for you to detour plans (if the entrance is blocked) or it may be a sign that opportunity awaits.
Similarly, many messages come in synchronicity. It may start subtly where you wake up at night to use the restroom and notice the clock is exactly 1:11 am. Weird. Then, in the midst of the chaos of the day, you just so happen to look at the time and it’s exactly 1:11 pm. Weirder. Later that day, as you’re driving down the road, you may see a business with the address 11 on 1st Street.
Our spirit guides will often influence our daily lives to make us notice things of importance. We look up from our phones at just the right time to see a billboard advertising a heating and cooling company just before our furnace dies that evening. We have this nagging feeling to go back and triple check that yes, we did turn off the stove only to discover that we left our grocery list or wallet on the counter.
When we make a habit of connecting with our environments more regularly, we allow ourselves to receive more guidance and warnings.
Raising your Vibration
Everything is made of energy. Everything. Energy emits vibrational waves (waves of heat energy, waves of sound, waves of light, etc). When hot air rapidly expands, that energy can create the rumble we identify as thunder. Have you ever felt thunder so intense that it rattled the windows? Have you ever saw waves of heat rising off the hot tarmac of a black road in the summer? Those are waves of heat energy. If you’ve ever watched a ghost hunting show and heard the terms, “EMF” or “EVP”, they’re all references to the measurement of certain types of energy.
Psychics tune into the energy and perceive the unique vibration of that energy. It’s important to remember that like attracts like. As a spiritual and psychic medium, when I want to connect with someone’s spirit, I have to raise my vibration because spirits operate at a higher level of vibration. By raising my vibration, I attract energies that emit high vibrational energy.
There are a variety of ways to raise your vibrations from drinking water (water is a conduit for energy), consuming foods according to their frequency, finding a meditation style that appeals to you (otherwise, you won’t want to do it), listening to high vibrational music, and engaging in high vibrational behavior like optimism, gratitude, excitement, and joy. Abstaining from lower vibrational behaviors, music, food, etc. will also help keep your vibrations high.
Practicing with Feedback
Finally, one of the most effective ways to practice your skill is by engaging in feedback-based exercises. The type of exercises you will need will be based on what pairs most naturally with the type of psychic medium you are (spiritual, physical, technological, culinary, music, etc.) and how those abilities are expressed (e.g. clairsentience, claircognizance, etc).
Musicians improve by playing music and hearing when notes are flat, are perfectly executed, or when beats are skipped. Artists improve over time by trying new techniques that achieve the results they’re pursuing. Teachers improve by looking for ways to raise students’ grades. All of these skills rely on feedback. Imagine if the musician couldn’t hear their music. How would they know they’re improving? Imagine if teachers had no way to gauge if their students are understanding the material.
In the future, I will be providing specific types of exercises that you can use for practice and as a template to model your own exercises. Here are a few ideas:
For Spiritual and Physical Mediums – find pictures of people with robust biographies and see if you can glean any information about the person form that picture. Are they still living or have they transitioned into Spirit? Were they married? What did they do for a living? If they died, at what age, how did they die, etc?
For Culinary Mediums – focus on the ingredients you have on hand. Can you remember the smell? The taste? The feel of the ingredients in your hands? Test yourself. Recall and then sample. What if you paired them with other ingredients? Can you taste a spice mixture and discern the order of the ingredients on the label?
For Technological Mediums – can you close your eyes, hover your hand over a device, and correctly identify the device in question? Can you anticipate the subtle impulses of the device beforehand? Connect with your device and then have a friend hide it within the same room. Test yourself. Can you find it?
Remember, the goal is to find a way to obtain feedback from your exercises, so you know which energies are the ones you’re looking for and how you tune into the expression of those energies.
This is Part 2 in my Psychic 101 Series. The purpose of this series is to help you discover your psychic abilities, learn how to control your psychic abilities, and how you can master them.
Do you want to know if you’re psychic? Are you sure?
Are you calm? Maybe make yourself a cuppa tea. Find a comfortable seat… you’ll want to sit down for this.
Of course you are psychic! Everyone is.
Do you know who was calling before you answered your phone? Are you unusually good at trivia regarding subjects that you shouldn’t know? Do you have an inherent sense of direction that perpetually keeps you from getting lost in new cities? When you see a photograph of someone, do you immediately sense how they were feeling? Do you sometimes feel like someone is in the room with you even when you’re alone? These are all example of psychic experiences!
In reality, being a psychic is filled with a lot of mundane-sounding events that serve as passing curiosities. They frequently impart on us the sensation that something unique happened then that feeling subsides and, along with it, our memory of the event. It’s the shared, “Oh, huh, isn’t that funny,” moments we collect throughout our lives. The difference between you and professional psychics is that they’ve chosen to develop their abilities. They train themselves to be open to psychic experience, learn to hone their skills, and control their psychic abilities.
Having a psychic experience is one the most natural experiences because, in its most simplest form, a psychic experience is one in which you connect with energy on a psychic level (as opposed to a surface or superficial level). For example, shaking your hand is inherently a superficial or surface level action, but if that act of touching allows me to glean information about how you’re feeling, what you’re thinking, where you came from, or what you’re about to do then you’ve also connected on a psychic level.
This connection is a connection of energy. Everything is comprised of energy. I’m energy. You’re energy. There’s energy in that blade of grass. The device on which you’re reading this? There’s energy in that, too. Establishing a psychic connection to these types of energies makes you a psychic.
Definition of Psychic Ability: psychic ability is the ability to connect with energy on a psychic level
Definition of Psychic: someone with psychic ability
The way, or medium, used to establish the connection varies. Imagine you’re driving down a long, empty highway. What does that vehicle look like? Is it a semi truck? Motorcycle? Hatchback? That vehicle is your medium. The Oxford dictionary defines the word medium like this:
I am a psychic. My primary mediums for psychic expression are spiritual and physical which means that I primarily connect to the energy of Spirit within their body and outside of their body. Inside of the body refers to those “living” (you and I) whereas outside of the body refers to those who have passed on or exist outside of the body (e.g. our spiritual team).
So, how are you psychic?
This is the million dollar question, isn’t it? The first step in the process is identifying how you’re medium. What is the vehicle you’re most naturally inclined to use to access energy on a psychic level? Do you have a deep connection to spirits? To technology? To nature? To places? To objects? If there’s some way to connect with the energy, then there’s a medium style associated with it. Below are some of the more common types of psychic mediums:
Spiritual Mediums: a psychic who connects to spirits that exist as energy outside of the physical body.
Frequent Professions: drawn to professions involving death, the dying, or the dead (e.g. ghost hunters, medical examiners, pathologists, funeral home directors, etc).
Frequent Signs: Feeling like someone’s with you when you’re alone in the room, picking up on personality traits, emotions, or memories of someone who has passed.
What they do: Connects to those who have passed away; those who serve as spirit guides and as spirit guardians. Animal spirits are included here, too!
Physical Mediums: a psychic who connects to spirits that exist as energy inside the physical body.
Frequent Professions: drawn to professions involving healing physical, mental, or emotional illnesses and trauma (e.g. medical doctor, veterinarian, and therapists).
Frequent Signs: Intuitively being able to understand the sources of pain, distress, thoughts, and feelings in other living beings.
What they do: Connects to those who have not passed away.
Precognitive Mediums: a psychic who connects to the energy of future events.
Frequent Professions: drawn to professions involving the creation of something (e.g. business, architecture, etc), or the generation of something (e.g. finance, gambling, etc).
Frequent Signs: They have a sixth sense of what’s going to happen (what stocks to sell, where to purchase land for a new building, etc.)
What they do: Senses the culmination of energy building.
Postcognitive Mediums: a psychic who connects to the energy of past events.
Frequent Professions: drawn to professions involving history, archaeology, or become museum curators.
Frequent Signs: That sense of dread attached to the past history of a place, “I don’t know what happened here but it was bad.” They also either passionately love historical sites or passionately hate historical sites because of how they feel when they visit them.
What they do: Senses the collection of residual energy at a location.
Frequent Signs: “I just knew [obscure or unlikely explanation] was the source of all your problems.” Being able to visually “mind map” electrical connections to diagnose issues or strengthen signals. Using technology in unconventional ways.
What they do: Psychically connects to electrical energies using technological devices
Travel Mediums: a psychic who connects to the energy of places.
Frequent Professions: drawn to professions involving location scouting, visual artistry (like makeup artists, set designers, or film directors), or travel.
Frequent Signs: “I had a dream about this place,” or, “I have a great sense of direction,” or, “I know the perfect setting for this story I’m writing.”
What they do: Connects to the energy of places.
Most people find themselves connecting to more than one type of psychic medium. This is entirely normal. However, there are one or two areas that you will find the strongest connection with. This is your spiritual team going, “there.” You’ll find yourself drawn to these type of psychic connections. You’ll find yourself most attracted to these types of careers.
Once you’ve established the type of medium you are, you’ll need to establish the way you access information. If the medium is the vehicle, your psychic abilities are the perks with that vehicle. What color is it? What’s the interior look like? What are you listening to on the radio? These are traditionally known as, “The Clairs.”
To put this all in perspective, I am a psychic. My primary connections are as a Spiritual Medium and Physical Medium. This means that I connect with the spirits of those living, those deceased, and those who are non-human entities (like your spiritual team).
As a Spiritual Medium and Physical Medium, I can use clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance to gather information about the Spirit. This frequently includes their names, significant months or dates, occupation or hobby, if they passed then how, etc.
What about you? You can leave your comments below to talk about the ways in which you have expressed your psychic abilities!
